Exhibitions

The permanent exhibition tells the story of the Mill and the development of the town of Gatehouse, and of the history and heritage of the Fleet Valley and surrounding area.
Temporary exhibitions also run throughout the season.

Exhibition : The Gatehouse Story

All season

The town of Gatehouse of Fleet was built from scratch in the mid eighteenth century as a planned industrial town. It grew out of great changes in society at the time – a product of the industrial revolution. This exhibition tells its story.

Exhibition : Follow The Fleet

All Season

The Fleet Valley is a designated National Scenic Area. It contains a wide variety of landscape and wildlife. This exhibition follows the river as it flows from the high hills and wild moorland at the head of the valley between the narrow wooded slopes of the middle section of the valley with its patchwork of small fields and woodlands to the open estuary landscape where the river flows into the bay. A set of trail guides available from the Mill complements the exhibition.

Kirkcudbrightshire Castles Past And Present

An exhibition by The Scottish Castles Association

This exhibition traces looks at some of the many castles of Kirkcudbrightshire.  It includes castles in care, castles which have been restored, castles at risk, and a couple that are largely forgotten.  Many started off as quite similar tower houses, but their stories and outcomes differ considerably.
