New songwriting inspired by the landscape, history and culture of the Fleet Valley National Scenic Area. During a year-long project at the Mill and through a series of workshops hosted by Gatehouse songwriters Alan McClure and Susi Briggs, the valley has come to life in an eclectic collection of songs by an eclectic collection of songwriters.
On the 14th of September we shall be welcoming James Cowan to Gatehouse. He is the CEO of the HALO Trust whose Head Office is at Carronfoot, Thornhill. He will be giving a talk about the work of the HALO Trust.
The Halo Trust was founded in 1988 with the purpose of clearing the unmarked minefields in Afghanistan left behind after the Soviet withdrawal. Since then the Trust has grown to now employ 7,500 people in 19 Countries and Territories across the globe, where mines of all sorts cause injuries to children and adults alike. The Trust is also engaged in the destruction of munitions and weapons when these have been left behind after conflicts.
Talk: Tongland: a Concentration of History (Tongland Abbey, Salmon Fishery, Riverside Mills, Arrol-Johnson Car Factory and Hydro Electric Scheme), speaker: David Devereux, former Curator, The Stewartry Museum.
